Education isn't.

Teachers spent hours this past quarter trying to teach long distance. All of it was a waste of time. This is what the school districts of Florida are doing. Students who did nothing but go to the beach for the last three months are not paying any sort of price. They missed a quarter of the school year, but their diploma will look just like the students who actually worked. So students who spend the lockdown driving around the county doing drive by shootings will get the same grades as the ones who actually did what they were supposed to do.

Grantham said Alex Cole, an Informational Technology employee, created a program that will inspect each student’s grades. The program will replace the fourth nine weeks grade with the third nine weeks grade, if it dropped, automatically. The program will also recalculate the overall grade after grades were changed.

Education in this country is nothing but babysitting because that is what the parents want. Grades are supposed to reflect whether or not a student learned what they were supposed to learn. Giving them free grades, schools might as well close and just mail diplomas to everyone.

Homeschool. If your care about your kids, homeschool.

God isn't going to hold the government indoctrination center employees account for your kids education.

In my experience, homeschooling doesn't work for most. Rare indeed is the parent who has the patience and perseverance to stick to a solid education plan, especially at the high school level. Nearly every student who I have seen try to leave school in order to home school either comes back within a few weeks, or they wind up dropping out altogether.

The reason that homeschooling usually fails is that the parents don't want their children to receive a good education, they want their children to receive good grades. There is a difference.

Honestly, I don't think that homeschool works for most students. Yes, I have seen all of the studies- on both sides- and I think that they are mostly carried out by people with an agenda and have serious flaws.

For example, the oft cited statistic about home school students doing better on SAT and ACT tests. Remember that only the best home school students will take those tests. The ones who are not doing much and wind up dropping out do not. Public school students are required to pass math and literacy exams in order to graduate. There is a loophole in the law that allows the ACT and SAT to substitute for those exams. So there are many public school students who take the SAT and ACT who are performing far below grade level.

@Divemedic. Respectfully, do you have any ACTUAL experience with homeschooling? I agree that studies are frequently carried out by people with an agenda, but that's not the point.

We homeschooled our youngest from second grade on. She was in a private Christian school before that and was being bullied by the other girls. She absolutely thrived in a homeschool environment. Yeah, it's probably not for everyone, but if you haven't at least attempted it, you have no standing to criticize.

My lady is a teacher. Title I. She is also a reading specialist. For 14 years I listened to her complain about home schooled children. They would get homeschooled children returning to the public schools and they would need extensive services.

According to her and her piers home schooling harmed children.

Then our children hit middle school. One year of that and she was willing to try home schooling. For two years we have done home schooling.

She is now a huge proponent of home schooling.

What changed was that she was finally put in a position of seeing the successes of home schooling.

Where as before she knew every home school kid "because the needed services" she was now seeing that misty of the kids retuning to the public schools for a last year of high school were the students with the highest grades in the most advanced courses offered.

Of the kids going to the local college for high school credits, most had been home schooled prior to returning.

For the last 4 years, the students at the head of graduation have been home schooled but for the last year.

She had a filter provided by the union the home schooling was harmful to children. And her personal experience was all with failed home schooled children.

What I found, being a small part of the home school community is that they are not as presented to the masses. There are some that do fail. There are more that succeed. And those in the middle do better then their counter parts in the public school.
