“Unhappy it is, though, to reflect that a brother’s sword has been sheathed in a brother’s breast and that the once-happy plains of America are either to be drenched with blood or inhabited by slaves. Sad alternative! But can a virtuous man hesitate in his choice?” - George Washington, 1777
While I have a tendency to use commas excessively, using them to put a pause where I paused writing the thought, I absolutely use the Oxford comma. I just didn't know it had a name.
Some teacher I had along the way referred to writing something and taking out the comma shaker or punctuation shaker and sprinkling some at random on a sentence.
