We teachers have now been trained in protecting your children from shooters.
This is an example of the ALICE training that teachers in Florida have been receiving all week. To see the ALICE protocol in action, advance to the 29:20 mark. This training is what you do when people are screaming for you to do something, but you won't do what is needed to actually accomplish anything.
The cost to have one of your employees certified as an ALICE instructor is $600, and takes two days.
We were told that they will not even be fencing in the schools, because a killer can easily jump a fence. They are literally doing NOTHING to protect the teachers or the children. To them, it is gun control or nothing.

Sending a child to a public school in 2018 is child abuse.
My cub scout den mother was a model of the smart, dedicated elementary school teacher. She was hard-working, professionally widely engaged in her early education field, and had an exceptionally good attitude.
Yet, Gatto accurately describes the results she was producing with her classroom. Judging by results only she was a government's smart weapon, perverting the development of childrens' minds wherever she worked.
Many of the teachers I know are retired, and have become quietly horrified as they finally realized what they had done. Not that they can talk about it much without crushing their teacher friends and nuking their social support network.
The exceptionally good attitude and work ethic turns out to be not indicative of good behavior. She was immune to feedback, then or now. Maybe that's the key. Good people take feedback seriously, it's the only way to correct the mistakes of where they're coming from.
I am at least heartened that they are teaching the Run part of Run, Hide, Fight, and trying desperately NOT to tell people to fight. I think that's because of liability issues, as much as anything.
The Outdoor life channel has a really good show called "The Best Defense" which runs realistic scenarios pulled from the news, in several different responses and outcomes. Their "school shooter" episode, which is on this page, http://outdoorchannel.com/showvideos.aspx?show-id=720&page=5 was good and had some tips I appreciated. I can't get the video to play tonight, but it used to and it's probably something in my settings.

Both are good links to pass along to someone who might be waking up to the desire to NOT just stand there and be killed.

added- I've already started teaching my 8 and 6 year old elementary school daughters Run Hide Fight, and I've promised them they won't get in trouble if they do. Run from trouble, run toward safety. I've also worked with them on bleeding control, as they won't be getting any outside help...
