“Unhappy it is, though, to reflect that a brother’s sword has been sheathed in a brother’s breast and that the once-happy plains of America are either to be drenched with blood or inhabited by slaves. Sad alternative! But can a virtuous man hesitate in his choice?” - George Washington, 1777
Yet again, you get what you pay for... Canadian healthcare has been notoriously poor for years - they come to the US all the time for care; there used to be scheduled buses from several of the central cities (Winnipeg, etc) to Minneapolis just for doctor visits and operations. I don't know how COVID has affected them.
Sig, I suspect the private flights bypass the potential quarantine at both ends. Pretty sure that passengers on private flights aren't tracked like commercial passengers are. Except for the time involved, driving should be the same. That's why I drove to TX earlier in 2020, and searched for a rental with a non quarantined state plate.

It is $60,000 to charter a private jet that will carry 16 passengers from Toronto to Miami. That works out to $3750 per passenger. Not outrageous, considering that you avoid lockdown and quarantine hassles.

I recall hearing stories about Canadians flocking to south Florida for knee operations 30 or 40 years ago.
ReplyDeleteI can hardly imagine buying a 50 to $80,000 charter flight to get the equivalent of a flu shot. Heck, fly first class and save 48 to $78k.
