A person appeared on a friend's social media was criticizing Trump for calling out "shithole" countries. I responded by saying this:
I would argue that "shithole" countries is an accurate description. I have travelled all over the world, and I can assure you that there are many shitholes. Defecating in the street, homes built out of pallets and scrap.
How would you describe this?
Less than 5 minutes later, I got this reply:
It’s poverty largely due to corporate and political greed. Which can be improved with the proper allocation of resources, public health education etc. You need to do some serious soul searching, stop traveling around the world to places you judge with such ignorance. You haven’t learned a thing.
So I click on this person's profile. She graduated from a high school full of rich kids in 2016, then attended college at the University of South Florida from 2016 to 2018, receiving a degree in Health Science. Here is my response:
You graduated from a school paid for by what you call "corporate greed" and have been more of a recipient of the wealth generated from it than 90% of the planet. You don't know shit about shit.
Don't try and lecture me about poverty and ignorance, little girl. You haven't seen or experienced shit yet. The only poverty you have seen has been on television.
Typical spoiled rich kid who thinks that because they have graduated from college they know everything.
I thought for sure you'd tell her that pic came from San Francisco.
ReplyDeleteI had a conversation about this type of thing with a dude on my travels. He said none of these people had spend a minute in those neighborhoods, volunteering, working, etc. I had to agree.
The young'uns around here think I'm an old racist redneck. Fact of the matter is that both my wife didn't grow up with money, and spent years working low on the food chain. At one point, I installed cable tv in the hood. Before I was married, I lived with friends in a 'marginal' neighborhood. To us, it was a deal.
So you're right on the money. They only know it in their heads from TV and the web. They haven't lived it, worked in it, smelled it. Had she, she'd realize that while there is unfairness, by and large people are their own worst enemies.
Ha. Challenge her to ride a bike through overtly muslim countries dressed in daisy dukes and a halter top.
ReplyDeleteThen place bets on how soon she calls the local consulate or embassy for a rescue, or ends up dead.
Shithole countries are just that, shithole countries.
I spent 3 years on Kwajalein island, in Kwajalein Atoll, in Micronesia. The island, under the control of the US Army, really nice. Meck island, under control of the US Army, really nice. Roi-Namur, under control of the US Army, really nice. Ebeye and other native-controlled islands, shitholes all. Turd-World buildings, garbage in the streets and thrown into the beautiful waters.
Ebeye? Less than a few miles from Kwajalein island. Just a few miles away and it's all the difference in the world.
