“Unhappy it is, though, to reflect that a brother’s sword has been sheathed in a brother’s breast and that the once-happy plains of America are either to be drenched with blood or inhabited by slaves. Sad alternative! But can a virtuous man hesitate in his choice?” - George Washington, 1777

Trauma first aid for the beginner (part one)
I am removing this information due to liability concerns. Sorry.
A suggestion is celix instead of quikclot. My surgeon brother hates dealing with quikclot. Quikclot is much better than nothing and it has a longer shelf life than celox.
Both are available in different forms from powder to a tampon like injector to impregnated gauze.
I replaced the compression bandage with an Israeli combat bandage on all my kits.
On my personal kits I have c.a.t. tourniquet but have the stretch ones for the untrained bags.

Yes. I use them interchangably. I tend to do that because QuikClot was the first one that I used. Celix works as well.
ReplyDeleteI do the same thing with "Coke" when what I really mean is "Cola"
I consider quikclot a "can't afford Celox". Just to many reports from doctor's and nurses talking about having to clean it out of wounds.
ReplyDeleteIt will save a life but it had a downside. Regardless have one or the other.
