“Unhappy it is, though, to reflect that a brother’s sword has been sheathed in a brother’s breast and that the once-happy plains of America are either to be drenched with blood or inhabited by slaves. Sad alternative! But can a virtuous man hesitate in his choice?” - George Washington, 1777
Maybe. I don't know. I haven't watched COPS in something like 15 years, and I think I saw a snippet of LIVEPD on YouTube or something once. It had me yelling at the screen before I just shut it off.
I know there were accusations a while back of police basically scheduling big events to coincide with the filming of COPS--things like no-knock raids, and generally putting on a show for the cameras. That's not the way I would want my police department to behave.
I usta come home from a long day workin' to pay alimony and would feel better after watching an episode of Cops and think "ya know, my life could be a lot worse. Oh, wait, I don't do drugs or steal shit or etc". I have minimal sympathy for the subjects of the show.
Everyone behaves better when they're on camera.
ReplyDeleteThen wouldn't that be an argument to continue COPS and LIVE PD, instead of cancelling them?
